The Alpha Course at Trinity Gosforth

What is Alpha?
The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought provoking weekly sessions, with a day or weekend away. It consists of a series of talks addressing key issues relating to the Christian faith.

Who's it for?
Alpha is for everyone, especially:
• Anyone wanting to investigate Christianity.
• New Christians. • Newcomers to the church.
• Christians who want to brush up on the basics.

What happens?
1 Supper - There's a light meal together at the beginning of each session, which gives people a chance to get to know each other.
2 Talk - After each talk we divide into small groups to discuss the topic of the evening, express opinions and ask questions.
3 Small groups - Listen, learn, discuss and discover. State your views and ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile. So ask what you will!

How much?
There is no charge for the Alpha course itself, although you may be invited to make a donation towards the cost of the food.

What do the sessions cover?
We look at a different basic question each week.
1 Who Is Jesus?
2 Why Did Jesus Die?
3 How Can I Be Sure of My Faith?
4 Why and How Do I Pray?
5 Why and How Should I Read the Bible?
6 How Does God Guide Us?

The Awayday
i) Who is the Holy Spirit?
ii) What does the Holy Spirit do?
iii) How can I be filled with the Spirit?
7 How Can I Resist Evil?
8 Why and How Should We Tell Others?
9 Does God Heal Today?
10 What About the Church?

Alpha Supper
A relaxed and informal evening, with supper including tea/coffee.
• Do you want to know more about the Alpha Course?
• Have you already decided to join the course?
• Are you uncertain about whether to sign up or not?

This supper is for you! A useful opportunity to find out more and to meet up with the team and others planning to do Alpha. You won’t be under any pressure or obligation to go on and take the course if you don’t want to.

There’s no charge as such, but a small donation towards the cost of the meal would be welcomed.

Why not come and stick a toe in the water? Bring a friend. It will be an enjoyable evening and you have nothing to lose!

Celebration Supper
Another relaxed and informal evening, with supper including tea/coffee. Again, there’s no charge but donations towards the cost of food would be welcomed.

The celebration supper marks the end of the current Alpha course. Its aim is to celebrate the completion of the course and to give anybody who may not know much about Alpha another chance to find out what it’s all about from those who have done it. The team will be there, as will those who have just finished the course.
