Sally's Testimony
"You are never too old to be Baptised"
Many of you have asked me why I am being baptised. I really don’t know if I was, as a child and I had never thought about it for myself. The only answer I can give is that one night, propped up in my bed, listening to worship tapes, and trying to do my homework for the caring course, I suddenly felt convicted that being baptised was what God wanted me to do. So I just said yes and here I am.
This is my Story.
I first became a Christian as a young and very enthusiastic girl of 15. I was a very independent girl, already living away from my family.
Since then God has led me down many roads some happy, others not, often just getting on with life whatever the situation.
Many times I have lost God. I think he was more lost to me than found. It took quite a few years to recognise that he never lost me.
I always enjoyed worship in my life at church, but more often than not I went away feeling a bit lost, and with the thoughts that there must be more to it than this.
In 1989 a few of us went along to Easter people, this was a strange way of church to me, but I so enjoyed it.
A few years later I was encouraged to join a ‘Share Jesus Mission’. This involved working in a church, sleeping on a floor and generally just doing whatever was needed. This was so new to me as we were encouraged to explore the way God would use us.
This was a great turning point in my life. I did 6 missions in this country and 2 in California. Each one proved to be an amazing journey of growth and confidence in my ability to relate to people within a church situation, and my spiritual life began to grow, and another amazing time was spent in Africa with Janet Field.
Since then I thank God daily that he has made me into the person I am. I care passionately about the young families I get to know, meeting people in the cafe, and generally getting into every ones way. But I am confident that God will bless all we do in this place in his name.
